The region of Costa Brava in north-eastern Spain, covers some of the best Blue Flag beaches around the Mediterranean Sea along with a lovely landscape. It offers the tourists a blend of pristine natural beauty and a medieval charm that creates a wonderful setting. The region is famous for its colourful towns along with Baroque cathedrals and a spectacular coastal scenery. This is also the land of Salvador Dali with multiple museums dedicated to his life and works.

The area is enriched with various archaeological sites and lovely fishing villages. It also celebrates a range of colourful festivals all through the year that provide you with a broader insight into the traditions of Spain. Costa Brava is the right blend of the old-world charm and the contemporary character, that will keep a tourist engaged for days.

Places to visit

Girona

From majestic cathedrals to ancient Arab baths, Girona is a city of many attractions. It is famous for the colourful houses that create an eye-catching setting, Visit the 11th-century Girona Cathedral which is a great work of architecture. There are lovely beaches like Lloret de Mar, Pineda de Mar, and Tossa de Mar surrounding the town which are perfect for enjoying the blue sea.

The lovely town combine a Roman heritage along with an ancient castle that provides a grand view of the sea and the surroundings. The old section of the town takes you back to the medieval periods and a walk over the cobbled streets is a very rewarding experience. A hike or a ride on a bike through the surroundings take you close to the delightful combination of the blue sea and mountains.

This beautiful fishing village has been a destination that attracted a range of intellectuals in the past, including Picasso, Matisse and Dali. Walking down the streets bordered by the white buildings with blue accents and the colourful shops is a fascinating experience. You can visit the house-museum of Salvador Dali that offers an insight into his life.

Besalu

The architectural work in Besalu is its chief attraction. The medieval bridge across the River Fluvia is one of the landmark sights of the town. There are multiple lovely churches along with Jewish baths and synagogues that speak of the Jewish history of the town. The town is also known for its colourful festivals and a range of shops that are a major attraction for souvenir hunters.

La Garrotxa

The region is a natural wonder and consists of a park developed by the lava flow from multiple volcanoes. The spectacular scenery is marked by green forests, deep gorges and vast plains. The beautiful villages are a visual delight and can be visited on bikes, horse backs and even from hot air balloon rides.

The lovely beaches are the chief attraction of Costa Brava. From popular haunts to secluded coves, the region offers a wide variety of choice to enjoy the Mediterranean. The S’Abanell Beach is one of the longest and is perfect for swimmers.  The Cala Banys and Cala Futadera are flawless beauties with the right touch of serenity. The Cala Sant Francesc and Cala Giverola are ideal options for families as they offer a whole range of facilities. Platja Gran is another lovely beach that offers excellent choice to water sport lovers.

You will never run out of exciting things to do in the region of Costa Brava. The sea around the region is a perfect choice for scuba diving and enjoying the underwater life forms. You can ride a catamaran on the sea to take a closer look at the striking coastline. The region offers plenty of options to hikers for get in close touch with nature. Plan a trip to Barcelona to enjoy the charm of Spain’s capital city. The region also has plenty of water parks that are a great choice for enjoying a day with the family.

Costa Brava with its rustic delights and natural beauty, is a perfect destination for the whole family.
